We arrived in Santiago, Chile ahead of schedule, after a night of minimal sleep (if any), but after plenty of hours of relaxation in pretty comfy seats (thanks, United)! (I take that back! It’s true for three of us! Mike, however, had a thirty-something-year-old BOY sitting next to him in the window seat that drank glass after glass of wine and needed to crawl over him SEVEN TIMES to go to the bathroom! His night on board the plane was NOT relaxing!!! 🤣🤣🤣)
We dropped our luggage off at the Park Plaza and hit the streets where Mike saw A Big Red Tour Bus drive by! We all decided that would be the perfect way to kill time until our rooms were ready!
This was the first place we drove by, I kid you not— a McDonald’s! To say Patte’s eyes were a dancing with visions of a large Micky D’s Diet Coke in her head would be putting it mildly! (She got one but not until way later!)
Jonathan gave John and I a gift card for Christmas to a restaurant in Santiago called Mestizo. Lo and behold, look what we passed on the tour! Yea us—we have reservations there tonight!
The bus tour was a chill way to familiarize ourselves with the city while we were dog tired! Our first impression of Santiago—it is a very clean city with beautiful tropical plants and palm trees everywhere!
We opted to add the “Funicular de Santiago” to our tour! We rode a gondola up the mountain and enjoyed many beautiful views of the mountains (Andes) and the city (and even a beautiful statue of Mary).
We descended the mountain via the Funicular. As Mike so eloquently told us, “You are guaranteed to have FUN when riding a FUNicular!” And we certainly did!
After the tour ended, we got off that Big Red Bus and marched directly to the Park Plaza with one small (but well deserved) detour — a large Diet Coke for Patte! I kid you not, we were showered, with teeth brushed and fresh clothes on, and horizontal in our beds in record time!
What seemed like SECONDS later we met up in the downstairs lobby to hail an Uber to the restaurant. We were STARVING, so that Uber couldn’t come fast enough!
The Mestizo was a lovely restaurant! (Thanks Jonathan!)
We ordered Pisco Sours in honor of Fat Tuesday!
We ordered wine and toasted Jimmy’s one year anniversary in heaven! (We miss you, Jimbo! 😢)
And we enjoyed a magnificent dinner! Each of us ordered something different and loved EVERY.SINGLE.BITE! (These pictures are for you, Jonathan! And also for John’s siblings as they LOVE pictures of food! 🤣)
We were EXHAUSTED by the time dinner was over and Ubered it directly to our hotel where we CRASHED for the night! BUENOS NOCHES, everyone!
