THE JOURNEY BACK TO THE GOOD ‘OL USA!

Image
Our bags were packed, but we were NOT ready to go! We spent time (lots and lots of time) at the airport before we could finally check in for our flight! We checked in, checked our two-wheelers, made it through Security, and were in the Lounge at long last where we ate, drank and were merry!!! It wasn’t long (drinks all around and dinner too) before we were at our gate waiting to board!  Our Captain oh Captain played a little ditty before heading to his seat on the plane to fly us back to the US of A!! We enjoyed an uneventful flight from Buenos Aires to Houston.  Then a two hour flight from Houston to Tampa.  Followed by an hour Uber ride from Tampa to Bradenton! We did it!  We “Journeyed To The End Of The World” and made it back safely and soundly!  Memories were made and pounds were gained!   Thanks so much for following along with us!  And a final BUENAS NOCHES, everyone!

CEMETERY OF RECOLETA AND FLORIDA STREET BROWSING!

Image
We woke up and it was the very last day of our “Journey To The End of The World.”  After John returned from having coffee with an old work buddy, we decided to spend it in (you are not going to believe this) A CEMETERY!    Cemetery of Recoleta is the home of the world’s largest mausoleums!  We saw that a Norah Lange was buried there, so the big search began (she simply had to be a long lost relative of Patte and mine)!  We found her, but only after a lot of looking and some help from Mike and one of the attendants!  (John and I are rethinking our burial plans to include, perhaps, a tiny house!) We searched high and low through the maze of a cemetery, and finally found Eva Peron’s burial site.  The “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” lady!  Her story is fascinating (for more information, Google it)! The cemetery was something else, but we all needed a beer after all our searching! We found the perfect spot for lunch and a brewski right across the street c...

PUERTO MADERO, LA BOCA AND A TANGO!

Image
If you were to ask John, he would tell you he “built” this building in Buenos Aires back in the day.  (And that one!  And that one! 🤪) It was yet another beautiful, sunny morning so we decided to WALK to an area by the river called Puerto Madira.  The tree lined streets of Buenos Aires reminded us of the streets of Santiago—beautiful (and clean). Puerto Madira is an area of refurbished red brick warehouses that have been turned into restaurants!  Lots and lots of cool looking restaurants along the river.  Because we were there in the morning, almost everything was closed.  But we decided to come back and have our last dinner somewhere in the area so we can be a part of the evening hustle & bustle!  (But not too late!) This modern bridge was named “The Womens’ Bridge.”  I forget why (you’ll have to ask Mike)! 😄 We Ubered back to La Boca since our short visit there yesterday didn’t quite do it for us!  We LOVED the area, with lots of colo...

WE’RE ON OUR OWN IN BUENOS AIRES!

Image
The ship dumped us (just kidding) out on the sidewalk and said something like, “Here ya go—you’re on your own!”  SAY WHAT??? We dropped our luggage off at the Airbnb where we’ll be staying (there was just enough room in the elevator for one person and one set of bags), and then hit the streets! We found Florida St. (the Las Ramblas of Buenas Aires), and sat at a roadside cafe for a cuppa Java and people watched! Do you spy what we spied?  (No, August, not Spideyman!) Patte sure did!  And off she marched into that McDonalds and ordered herself a Coke Zero (no Diet Coke in Argentina).  Can you spell H A P P Y C A M P E R? We ate lunch at a cute cafe and people watched! After lunch we walked (and people watched) all the way back to our Airbnb! This is where we will be staying the next three nights while in Buenos Aires!  It’s cute, however, it DOES NOT come with room stewards, waiters and gourmet meals!  SAY WHAT???? It was a joint decision to “dumb it down” f...
